What are the performance uses of magnesia chrome bricks?
Magnesia chrome bricks are refractory products containing Cr2O3≥8% made by adding chromite to sintered magnesia as raw materials. The main mineral phases are periclase and chromium-containing spinel (MgO.Cr2O3).
Magnesium chrome bricks have certain resistance to alkaline slag erosion, good volume stability at high temperatures, and little shrinkage when reburned at 1500°C. The main disadvantage is that after the chromium spinel absorbs iron oxide, the structure of the brick is changed, causing “inflation” and accelerating the damage of the brick.
Magnesium chrome bricks are often used to build copper smelting furnaces, electric furnaces, rotary kilns and certain parts of open furnaces.
