In normal use, it is not in direct contact with the temperature of the furnace, and it is a kind of refractory brick product that is close to the furnace wall and has heat insulation and heat preservation effects.

Lightweight high-alumina brick is one of the ideal heat insulation refractory materials at present. It has the characteristics of high compressive strength, low thermal conductivity, good insulation performance, and low price. It has been widely used in ceramic tunnel kilns, roller kilns, and shuttle kilns. Type kilns, wall kilns, are also used in various heating furnaces, coking furnaces and other thermal equipment, heat treatment lining materials in the iron and steel industry.

Letvægts høj-aluminiumoxid mursten kaldes også høj-aluminium isolering mursten. Letvægts ildfast materiale med aluminiumoxidindhold over 48%, hovedsageligt sammensat af mullit og glasfase eller korund. Bulkdensiteten er 0.4~1.35g/cm3. Porøsiteten er 66%~73%, og trykstyrken er 1~8MPa. Termisk stødmodstand er bedre. Normalt tilsættes bauxitklinker med højt aluminiumoxidindhold med en lille mængde ler, efter at være blevet fint formalet, hældes det og formes i form af mudder ved gasgenereringsmetode eller skummetode og brændes ved 1300-1500°C. Nogle gange kan industriel aluminiumoxid bruges til at erstatte en del af bauxitklinker. Det bruges til beklædning og varmeisolering af murovne, samt de dele, der ikke er tæret og skuret af stærke højtemperatursmeltede materialer. Ved direkte kontakt med flammen må overfladekontakttemperaturen ikke være højere end 1350°C.
