Technical requirements for surface hardening of camshafts
The material of EQ491 engine camshaft is chromium-molybdenum alloy cast iron, and its chemical composition is shown in Table 1 .
Table 1 Chemical composition w ( % ) of chromium-molybdenum alloy cast iron
C | Si | Mn | S | P | Cr | Mo |
3.36 | 2.34 | 0.87 | 0.12 | 0.053 | 0.87 | 0.39 |
The metallographic structure of the chromium-molybdenum alloy cast iron camshaft before heating is type B graphite + fine pearlite + mesh carbide.
The cam blank is subjected to induction heating quenching in the as-cast state. The technical requirements for quenching are surface hardness of 50-60HRC , peach tip hardened layer depth of 4.6mm-10.0mm , and base circle hardened layer depth of 1.5mm-8.0mm .
