Since magnesium oxide is an alkaline oxide, increasing the alkalinity of the slag can reduce the chemical reaction between the slag and the magnesium oxide and reduce the chemical attack of the magnesia carbon brick.

Adding a protective layer on the surface of the magnesia carbon brick can prevent the contact between the magnesia carbon brick and the slag, and prevent the physical penetration and chemical erosion of high-temperature molten steel and molten slag.
