Argon blowing usually refers to laying one or several breathable bricks at the bottom of the pouring ladle or brick ladle, and blowing argon gas through the breathable bricks after tapping to cause agitation of the molten steel in the ladle. The advantage of the argon blowing operation is that it can promote the floating of emulsified slag droplets and inclusions in the steel, so that part of the components dissolved in the steel can be removed. Generally, manufacturers use argon blowing technology with breathable bricks in continuous casting occasions, which can adjust the temperature of molten steel. In short, ladle argon blowing is an important steelmaking process, and breathable bricks are an important part of this process.
The following are the points that manufacturers need to consider when blowing argon on ladle breathable bricks. First, under the premise of suitable process conditions, choose a breathable brick with better effect, longer life, and less steel penetration. Secondly, in the process of using ventilated bricks, the argon gas flow rate varies in different processing stages. Excessive flow will accelerate the erosion of ventilated bricks. Therefore, in the process of use, it is necessary to frequently observe the connection of the gas pipeline, and deal with the gas leakage at the joint in time to prevent gas leakage. In addition, since bottom-blown air-permeable bricks are eroded, the concave parts are easy to accumulate steel and solidify, so it is necessary to strengthen the maintenance of air-permeable bricks. Generally, the air source should be connected immediately after the steel is poured, and the unsolidified steel in the air passage and the steel accumulated in the recessed part of the bottom blown air brick should be blown out. After turning over the ladle and dumping the slag, hoist it to the hot repair area and put it down, and then connect the quick connector to test the flow rate of the breathable brick with compressed air or argon.
The purity of argon used for blowing argon with ladle venting bricks used by general manufacturers should be 99.99%, and the oxygen content should be strictly controlled below the specified 8ppm. It should be noted that when the oxygen content exceeds the standard, the oxygen will boost the melting and accelerate the melting of the ventilating bricks, which will reduce the life of the ventilating bricks, and cause the leakage of the ventilating bricks in severe cases.
